The beauty of rafting holidays is they can range from the tranquil to the extreme. Rivers often pass through beautiful, remote areas that puts you in touch with nature. Rafting is also one of the more accessible extreme sports as almost anyone can give it a go. While some trips are very expensive low cost rafting holidays with high adventure can still be found.

The cheapest rafting you can do is probably at your local river, but then if you stay at home it wouldn’t be a rafting holiday. So we have selected five low cost rafting holidays below. Of course the cost getting to some of these destinations will vary depending on where you are travelling from so we have put together this list based on rafting holidays that offer great value for money once you are there.

Oregon

The Rogue River in Oregon, USA, is a great place for low cost rafting holidays for families. Watch out for salmon leaping up waterfalls, pristine swimming areas, black bears patrolling the river banks and long sections of exciting rapids. With great value four-day trips available from Ouzel Outfitters, it’s a family adventure you will never forget.

Italy

The Aosta valley in Italy offers some of the best value rafting in the Alps with Totem Adventure. They are based on the Dora Baltea at the confluence of the Dora la Thuile and Dora di Courmayuer. It is a great spot to enjoy a low cost rafting holiday from May to September, as the lower reaches are mild and suitable for children, while upstream are more serious rapids for those looking for high adventure.

Tasmania

OK, so it’s not the easiest place in the world to get to which does affect the cost but in terms of value for money once there it’s right up there. The Franklin River in Tasmania’s remote south west corner is world-renowned for rafting. With nine and eleven-day rafting adventures on offer from www.worldexpeditions.com, with plenty of white water exhilaration along its course, this is a rafting trip you will never forget.

Morocco

Rafting with Water By Nature in the Atlas mountains of Morocco will see you taking on the Ahanssel river which runs through a dramatic river gorge. Morocco is an intoxicating and adventurous destination but this is one of the low cost rafting holidays that can be enjoyed by all the family. You can also explore Marrakech to add a little culture to the adventure.

Montana

Located in the northern USA, Montana is one of the largest states but also one of the least populated. Which means there is plenty of river to explore, offering genuine wilderness rafting adventures. Middle Fork Flathead and South Fork Flathead trips with Wilderness River Outfitters offer spectacular scenery, gemstone clear water and enough rapids to keep you concentrating fully at all times.

So there we have it, five low cost rafting holidays to choose from. If you are anything like us you will want to do them all, which I am sure would cost a fortune in flights….
